A Promise Kept

“For better or for worse…” and so on the marriage vows go. Young couples rarely conjure up what the “worse” part of that vow may mean. It is not possible on our wedding day but nonetheless we make a promise. What does it look like to keep that promise?

Some time ago I recommended the book called A Promise Keptby Robertson McQuilkin. Dr. McQuilkin was the president of Columbia Bible College and resigned due to his wife’s battle with Alzheimer’s. I have read his resignation speech before but have only recently come across the audio of the day he spoke in chapel. This is really, really good.

What I Totally Love About Her

A few years ago Rochelle and I attended a couples retreat in Colorado that had a major impact on our marriage. Major in the sense that I was challenged to do something that I did not think I would like but was so impacting. The retreat had scheduled in a huge block of time for couples to spend writing a letter to their spouse expressing appreciation and affection.

I thought it would be nice to do (for a few minutes) but really was not looking forward to it. I am not a “romantic” by nature and find myself very uncomfortable with alot of emotion. I make fun of the Hallmark Channel. Well, that exercise a few years ago taught me some things about myself and how selfish I am when it comes to expressing what is in my heart for Rochelle.
